AUSTRALIAN users hoping to download the Beta 2 release of Microsoft's Office 2007 have been given a fleeting last chance.
Microsoft confirmed Australian users would be denied further access, but that the block would not be put in place until 11am tomorrow (August 02), rather than today as originally planned. Around 25,000 Australians had downloaded the beta release, a Microsoft spokesman said.
While Australians will be denied further access, the Office 2007 evaluation program for Microsoft's home US market will continue - at a price.
At the same time Australian downloads are switched off, Microsoft will begin charging $US1.50 ($1.95) per download for US users.
Microsoft said it had rejected a pay-per-download model for Australia because the local program was already full.
"Australians have been able to participate in the Office 2007 Beta 2 program for the past three months," Microsoft product manager Robin Young said.
