XCCC: Browser May Not Display OWA Icons When Exchange 2000 Is Behind Proxy 2.0

This article was previously published under Q290177
SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to access your mailbox with Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access (OWA), you may be able to see the "shell" of an OWA page but the graphical icons are missing. In the folder items section of the screen, a "Loading..." message is displayed.
RESOLUTION
The Proxy Server administrator must use the following procedure if the client is attempting to access OWA on an Exchange 2000 server that is behind a Proxy Server 2.0 computer. In addition to the Exchange directory, the proxy server must also publish the Exchweb directory.
On the proxy server, start Internet Service Manager (ISM).
On the Action menu, click Web Proxy, and then click Properties.
On the Publishing tab, click to select the Enable Web Publishing check box.
Click Send incoming requests to the local server.
Add an exception to send requests for
http://FQDN/Exchweb

-to-

http://Server/Exchweb

where FQDN is the registered MX record, and Server is the NetBIOS name or IP address of the Exchange 2000 server.
When you access OWA through Proxy Server, use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
